By Jackson Dema, Head, Pilot politics desk

As political alignments for the 2027 general elections continue, the newly registered political party in Nigeria, the National Democratic Congress, NDC under the Leadership of His Excellency, Sen. Henry Serekie Dickson, with Sen Moses Cloepas as the National Chairman is working relentlessly to ensure the victory of the party in the forthcoming National and State House of Assembly Elections in Bayelsa State

To achieve its victory, the party is reported to have been holding secret meetings with former and serving Local Government chairmen, National Assembly members, Commissioners, State House of Assembly members, political leaders, elders, youths and women bodies in the state.

Sen Dickson the National leader of the party, is no doubt a big political player and personality in Bayelsa politics that cannot be underrated politically in the state, as a former Bayelsa State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, House of Representative member, he is the immediate past Governor of the State and presently the Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly

While the party national chairman, Sen Moses Cloepas is also a known grassroots politician that has been involved in the political activities of the state from 1999 to date. Sen Cloepas was the former Bayelsa State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under Sen Dickson as Governor and later represented the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2019 and 2023

The National Chairman was said to have recently been in Bayelsa to conclude the final arrangements for the take-off of the party in the state, He was reported to have held series of meetings with the party leadership in the State, Local Government, Wards Executives and prospective high ranking members.

“There is also a strong indication that the recent resignation of Hon. Joshua Marciver from the All Progressives Congress, APC was part of NDC’s plans to be strong in Bayelsa.

Hon. Marciver was the Deputy Governorship candidate in the 2023 Bayelsa State Governorship Elections with His Excellency, Timipre Sylva as the APC’s Governorship candidate in the 2023 Governorship Election against Governor Douye Diri.

“Hon Marcver’s resignation from the APC is part of the National Democratic Congress, NDC programmes in the state as he may finally join the National Democratic Congress NDC alongside his supporters across the eight LGAs and other political leaders and followers from Sylva’s camp.

“The party, NDC leadership is busy working on Bayelsa people with the message that the party is an iIaw Party”, an official of the party revealed.

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of Governor Diri said it’s not losing sleep over the introduction of the new party (NDC) into the Bayelsa State political space, particularly with the recent formation of a new State and local government executives of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The new exco is made up of noted and fearless politicians under the State chairmanship of Hon. Warman Ogoriba, a former House of Representatives member who’s ability to man the party in the state is not in doubt because of his experience and as a result oriented personality.
