Healthcare Central to Renewed Hope Agenda, Says FCT Minister

Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mariya Mahmoud, has underscored healthcare as a central pillar of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, citing ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the sector for sustainable impact.

Mahmoud said the administration’s priorities are reflected in deliberate efforts to revitalise primary healthcare, expand health insurance coverage, strengthen financing frameworks and improve the welfare of health workers nationwide.

She made the remarks at the inaugural National Health Convention and Roundtable 1.0 organised by the APC Medical Council at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja.

According to a statement issued by her Special Adviser on Media, Austine Elemue, the minister described the convention as a strategic intervention aligned with the governing party’s commitment to people‑centred governance and long‑term development outcomes. She commended the leadership of the APC Medical Council for creating a platform to interrogate systemic challenges and propose forward‑looking solutions.

Highlighting policy direction under the APC‑led administration, Mahmoud said the Federal Government has maintained a consistent focus on strengthening healthcare delivery systems and advancing reforms designed to improve citizens’ well‑being. She characterised the roundtable discussions as timely, urging stakeholders to prioritise actionable recommendations capable of transforming primary healthcare delivery, improving maternal and child health indices, and addressing persistent sectoral gaps.

According to her, achieving Universal Health Coverage requires pragmatic, implementable strategies backed by measurable performance benchmarks rather than theoretical commitments.

Furthermore, Mahmoud affirmed that the FCT Administration remains fully aligned with the national healthcare reform agenda, adding that significant investments are being deployed to upgrade health infrastructure and services across both the city centre and satellite communities.

She called on participants to ensure that deliberations translate into concrete, outcome‑driven initiatives that will deliver tangible benefits to residents.
