Federal Government Set to Revolutionize Cross-Border Trade with National Single Window Phase One Launch

The Federal Government has confirmed that phase one of the National Single Window (NSW) will officially be launched on March 27, 2026, marking a major step toward transforming Nigeria’s trade and customs processes.

National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Deputy Controller Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed this on Wednesday.

The NSW, commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in April 2024, is designed to digitize and unify trade procedures nationwide. The platform is expected to streamline cross-border documentation, reduce delays at ports, and enhance regulatory oversight, ultimately boosting efficiency and economic growth.

In a recent video briefing, Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi emphasized the importance of collective support for the project. “The ultimate beneficiary of the NSW Project is Nigeria and the Nigerian people. We need to get goods out of the ports faster, more securely, and in a more transparent manner. This is a game-changer that requires full support across legislation, processes, and procedures,” he said.

While some trade agents have expressed concerns about readiness, industry stakeholders acknowledge that implementation is inevitable. Mr. Nnadi Ugochukwu, a senior member of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, noted: “Whether we are prepared or not, it is a government project and must be implemented. Proper execution will be a major step forward for Nigeria’s trade sector.”

Phase one of the NSW represents a crucial milestone in the Federal Government’s broader plan to modernize Nigeria’s trade ecosystem, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, and improve the ease of doing business.
