Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, will take on European sides Poland and Portugal in high-profile international friendlies during the June FIFA window.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation’s FIFA Match Agent, Jairo Pachon of Eurodata Sport, the Eagles will first face Poland on June 3 at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw. They will then travel to Portugal for a second friendly on June 10, with the venue yet to be confirmed.
The encounter against Portugal is expected to be a major test, as the European side will use the match as their final preparation ahead of the FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Before the June fixtures, the Super Eagles are also scheduled to defend their title at the Unity Cup Tournament in London, which will take place from May 26 to May 30.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for leadership changes in Nigerian football, as the NFF has inaugurated its Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee ahead of the 2026 elections.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, while inaugurating the committees in Abuja, charged members to conduct a transparent and credible process without bias. He emphasized the importance of integrity in delivering elections that will strengthen confidence in football administration.
Speaking on behalf of the committees, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Matthew Burka’a, assured Nigerians and the global football community that the process would be free, fair, and credible, promising to set a new standard for future elections.
The NFF Executive Committee elections are scheduled to hold on September 26, 2026, in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The upcoming friendlies and administrative preparations highlight a critical period for Nigerian football, as the Super Eagles gear up for international competition while the federation positions itself for a new leadership cycle.
