The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has exhumed the body of a commercial motorcyclist who went missing in Etim Ekpo Local Council last year and arrested one suspect in connection with the crime.
In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, police recalled that on November 11, 2025, at about 11:00 a.m., they received information that an unidentified motorcyclist had been cornered at Ikot Esop Village, robbed of his motorcycle, and subsequently declared missing.
Following months of intelligence gathering, operatives arrested one Emmanuel Silas on February 6, 2026. The suspect reportedly made useful statements that led police to the crime scene, where the victim was discovered to have been murdered and buried in a shallow grave. The remains were exhumed, photographed, and preserved for forensic examination and autopsy.
The Command assured that investigations are ongoing to recover the stolen motorcycle and track down other accomplices still at large. It urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with credible information to aid crime detection and prevention.
In a separate operation, police arrested 23 suspects during a coordinated raid at Ibaka Fishing Port in Mbo Local Council. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives carried out a strategic night operation between February 5 and 6, 2025, targeting criminal hideouts within the port.
The raid led to the arrest of suspects including Sampson Newstyle, Godgift Benabinte, Michael Asukwo, Prince Ene, Goodnews Asukwo, Golden Edu, and 17 others. Large quantities of suspected illicit drugs and other criminal exhibits were seized.
Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement in drug-related activities and to identify other individuals connected to the network.
The Command reiterated its commitment to tackling crime across Akwa Ibom, assuring residents that all those involved in criminal acts will be brought to justice.
