Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has been named Baller of the Week after his standout performance for Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig last weekend, narrowly edging fellow Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen.
The towering 6’7” striker powered Trabzonspor to a 3-0 victory over Samsunspor on Saturday, scoring twice in the 23rd and 81st minutes. His first came from a dominant header, while his second was a composed finish that sealed the win. The brace lifted Onuachu’s tally to 15 league goals this season, placing him among Europe’s leading scorers and solidifying his reputation as one of Turkey’s top finishers.
Osimhen also impressed, netting Galatasaray’s third goal in their 3-0 away win against Rizespor on Sunday. His strike in the 73rd minute took his league tally to nine goals, helping Galatasaray extend their lead at the top of the table.
The duo’s form has intensified the race for the Super Lig Golden Boot, contrasting Onuachu’s aerial dominance and physical presence with Osimhen’s pace and technical flair.
Onuachu’s man-of-the-match display was further highlighted by his overall contribution: he created two chances, delivered two key passes, completed 88% of his passes, succeeded in two of three dribbles, and maintained a perfect record with his long balls.
With both Nigerians in fine form, the Super Lig title race and the battle for top scorer promise to be thrilling storylines in the weeks ahead.
