The national leadership of the Labour Party (LP), under the chairmanship of Senator Nenadi Usman and national secretary Senator Darlington Nwokocha, has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Julius Abure and others over the alleged criminal invasion of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Addressing journalists, the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, reaffirmed the LP’s commitment to constitutional democracy, rule of law, and respect for judicial pronouncements. He stressed that Nigeria remains a constitutional democracy governed by laws, not impunity, and that the supremacy of the Constitution and finality of court decisions must be upheld.
Ndubuaku referenced the Supreme Court judgment of April 4, 2025 (Suit No. SC/CV/56/2025), which affirmed Usman and Nwokocha as the authentic leaders of the Labour Party. He said the party has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) demanding investigation, arrest, and prosecution of Abure and his associates for alleged criminal trespass, armed robbery, theft, assault, malicious damage, impersonation, contempt of court, conspiracy, and threats to national security.
He further urged the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to activate and implement the Criminal Prosecution Order dated March 7, 2025, concerning indictments for perjury, forgery, and criminal conspiracy against Abure, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, and others.
Ndubuaku commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their professional intervention, which he said prevented escalation and preserved public order. He noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has complied with subsisting judgments and formally recognized the Usman-led leadership as the authentic authority of the party.
According to him, Julius Abure and his associates have no legal standing within the party’s structure, adding that only the Usman-led National Working Committee has authority to administer and occupy the party’s national secretariat at No. 2 IBM Haruna Street, Utako, Abuja.
The Labour Party reiterated its commitment to peace and reconciliation through its National Peace and Reconciliation Committee, while also announcing that it has notified INEC of its planned congresses and national convention scheduled between March and April 2026.
Ndubuaku explained that the party’s membership registration and revalidation exercise is ongoing nationwide in both manual and electronic formats. “We invite all Nigerians aged 18 and above to join the Labour Party and rise with us to build the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said.
He concluded by demanding that the named individuals and their accomplices be promptly investigated, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with Nigerian law, that stolen assets be recovered, compensation paid for damages, compromised security personnel investigated, and enhanced protection provided to the party’s national secretariat.
