AMAC Chairman-Elect Maikalangu Hails Voter Turnout, Pledges Grassroots Development

The Chairman-elect of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has commended residents for what he described as a “historic demonstration of democratic will” following the just-concluded FCT Area Council elections.

Maikalangu, who secured 40,295 votes in the poll, said the “sea of heads” witnessed across polling units reflected the people’s confidence in continuity, stability, and community-focused governance.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja through the Secretary-General of the Maikalangu/Nadabo Campaign Council, Comrade Zakari Gambo Babale, the Chairman-elect described the turnout as a powerful endorsement of participatory democracy at the grassroots level.

“Your massive turnout has reaffirmed your trust in purposeful leadership and the continuity of progress. This is not merely a political victory; it is a victory for every resident who believes in a better, more prosperous AMAC,” he said.

Maikalangu praised the conduct of the election, thanking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and orderly process. He also acknowledged the role of traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, women associations, market unions, and student bodies in mobilising civic participation.

Reiterating his administration’s priorities, the Chairman-elect pledged to expand government presence across wards, focusing on security, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment. He said the renewed mandate aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Minister of State Mariya Mahmoud for their leadership in transforming the capital city.

“As we noted through our ward-to-ward campaign tours, we heard your needs clearly. Today, through this victory, we reiterate our commitment to bringing more government presence directly into your communities. The work of continuity begins now,” he added.

Political observers note that AMAC remains one of the most strategic councils within the FCT due to its demographic spread and economic footprint, making the outcome of the election particularly significant.
