APC chieftain, Alkali raises alarm over link to PDP image

By Olugbenga Salami

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Professor Rufai Alkali has raised the alarm over a fake image circulating online that links him to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Alkali, a former PDP member and chairman of the Rapporteur and Proceedings Sub-Committee for the just concluded APC National Convention, said the manipulated photo on WhatsApp purports to show him amid PDP colours and senior opposition figures.

Alkali, who resigned from the PDP almost 10 years ago, denied ever attending such a meeting and called the picture “malicious.”

He stressed that he has spent recent weeks focused on the APC and President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election drive.

Alkali said the timing was deliberate, surfacing the same day he was busy at the APC convention in Abuja’s Eagle Square.

He told reporters he was not an observer but an official deep in convention work as proceedings chair.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I left the PDP publicly alongside Jerry Gana, Tunde Adeniran and others nearly a decade ago,” he said.

Alkali noted he later chaired the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP in 2022, stepped down honourably in 2023 and joined the APC, where he remains loyal.

“It is false and illogical to tie me to a party I voluntarily quit ten years ago,” he added.

He described the episode as a clumsy attempt by unknown actors to mislead the public and sow confusion, urging Nigerians to disregard the fabrication and affirmed he remains focused and resolute.

“My project now is Tinubu 2 Terms—Forward Nigeria 2027, which we will unveil soon,” he said, vowing no blackmail will distract him.

“Forward ever, backward never,” Alkali declared, expressing confidence of triumph by God’s grace.
