Bandits Kill Over 40 in Deadly Attack on Woro and Nuku Communities

Armed bandits have reportedly killed over 40 people in a deadly assault on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State late Tuesday evening.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers suspected to be hiding in the Borgu National Park forest in Niger State stormed the communities around 6:00 pm, firing sporadically and sending residents into panic. Soldiers and forest guards have since taken control of the affected areas.

The Kwara State Government confirmed the incident in a statement issued by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq condemned the killings, describing them as a cowardly act by terrorist cells frustrated by ongoing counterterrorism campaigns.

“The Governor condemns the attack, which he says is a cowardly expression of frustration by terrorist cells following the ongoing counterterrorism campaigns in parts of the state and the successes so far recorded,” Ajakaye said.

Governor AbdulRazaq expressed condolences to the families of victims and the communities affected, stressing that the attack was aimed at distracting security forces who have successfully dismantled several terrorist and kidnapping gangs across the state.

The incident has reignited concerns over insecurity in Kwara’s border communities, with residents calling for stronger protection measures to prevent further attacks.
