The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of the COAS Intervention Battalion of special forces to Plateau State to decisively address the recent resurgence of banditry attacks.
The troops, already in the state, are expected to be a game changer in tackling insecurity. They were received at the Headquarters 3 Division by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, represented by Brigadier General Senlong Sule, Chief of Staff, Operation Enduring Peace.
In a statement signed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Oyinlola commended the proactive leadership of the COAS for providing combat enablers and logistics to ensure effective operations. He urged the troops to be decisive and ruthless in offensive operations against bandits.
Oyinlola also appealed to Plateau residents not to panic at the sight of large troop movements and heavy military equipment, assuring them that the deployment is aimed at restoring peace. He thanked citizens for their continuous support and called for more actionable intelligence to aid military operations.
The deployment underscores the army’s renewed determination to confront insecurity in Plateau and restore stability to affected communities.
