Ex-Flying Eagles Captain Daniel Daga Sentenced to Six Months in Norway

Former Flying Eagles skipper, Daniel Daga, has been sentenced to six months in prison in Norway after a court found him guilty of committing a non-consensual sexual act.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who plays for Norwegian club Molde FK, received the sentence following legal proceedings in the Scandinavian country. His lawyer has confirmed that Daga intends to appeal the verdict, maintaining that the encounter in question was consensual.

In response to the ruling, Molde FK released a statement acknowledging the court’s decision and announcing that the player will not take part in matches for the time being. “This is a very demanding matter for all involved. As an employer, Molde Football Club has a responsibility to look after our employees in a responsible manner, while at the same time having great respect for the seriousness of the matter and for the burdens this entails for all parties concerned. Based on the situation and the ongoing legal process, the club has decided that the player will not be part of the match squad until further notice,” the statement read.

Daga joined Molde in January 2025 and has appeared in 17 matches for the five-time Norwegian champions, scoring three goals. He represented Nigeria’s Flying Eagles at the 2023 and 2025 FIFA U20 World Cups.

The case is expected to continue as Daga’s legal team pursues an appeal against the verdict.
