The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has announced a one-month extension for the filing of individual annual income tax returns, moving the deadline from March 31 to April 30, 2026.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the Acting Executive Chairman of FCT-IRS, Michael Ango, explained that while the statutory deadline for filing individual tax returns remains March 31, the extension is aimed at providing taxpayers with additional time to submit accurate returns and enhance overall compliance within the Federal Capital Territory.
Ango stressed that individuals should prioritise timely filing of their annual returns, noting that voluntary compliance is both a civic duty and a key contribution to national development.
He further reminded taxpayers that electronic filing via the FCT-IRS Tax Portal remains the approved method for submitting annual returns, as the Service continues to strengthen its digital tax administration system.
Describing the portal as secure, efficient, and user-friendly, Ango advised taxpayers to ensure that their personal details, particularly National Identification Number (NIN), phone numbers, and addresses are correctly entered to prevent processing delays.
