The FCT Police Command said it has deployed one thousand, eight hundred and three personnel alongside operational assets to churches and recreational centers across the Federal Capital Territory in preparation for the 2026 Easter celebration.
A statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, says “the proactive measure is designed to re-inforce existing policing efforts and ensure the safety of worshippers and residents throughout the festive period.
” The deployment includes enhanced visibility policing, intelligence-led operations, coordinated vehicular and foot patrols and continuous monitoring aimed at the prompt detection and prevention of criminal activities,”
“In addition, Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Units have been tasked with conducting routine sweeps of major public and recreational locations to mitigate potential security threats,” SP Josephine Adeh explained.
According to the Police spokesperson, the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has urged residents to embrace the spirit of Easter by promoting peace, unity and mutual respect, while also felicitating with Christian faithful across the FCT.
The Commissioner has also reassured residents of the FCT of the commitment of the Police to the protection of lives and property before, during and after the celebrations, while also calling on them to remain law-abiding even as he encouraged religious leaders to continue to preach messages of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
He then called on members of the public to report any suspicious activities throught any of the police hotlines.
