GMI Commends Tinubu’s Diplomatic Gains, Urges Stronger Security Push

The Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative (GMI) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as a remarkable diplomatic turnaround that has restored Nigeria’s dignity and standing on the global stage, particularly in its relations with the United States.

In a statement by its National Coordinator, Samaila Musa, the group said that within just three months, Tinubu’s administration has repositioned Nigeria from a country once portrayed as diplomatically isolated to a respected and high-priority partner of the U.S.

“What we have seen since November 2025 is a masterclass in strategic leadership. From the high-level visits involving NSA Nuhu Ribadu and the U.S. Congress in December, to the joint counter-terrorism operations pact, this administration has shown it doesn’t just talk, it acts,” Musa said.

He noted that President Donald Trump’s recent remarks describing Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as a “very respected person” and expressing honour at her presence at the Washington Breakfast, signalled a new phase in Nigeria-U.S. relations and paved the way for a historic White House visit.

While celebrating these diplomatic wins, GMI acknowledged Nigeria’s complex security challenges, warning that bandits and terrorists are attempting to regroup and launch fresh waves of violence.

“We believe the end of banditry in Nigeria is finally within sight. But we must not take our foot off the gas. Even as these criminals try to reorganize, we are calling on the Federal Government to double its efforts,” Musa said.

The group reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu and the nation’s security agencies, pledging to remain vigilant at the grassroots level. It urged the President to deepen collaboration with the U.S. and other allies, leveraging intelligence, technology and military support until banditry and terrorism are eliminated.

“The GMI stands firmly behind the President and the security agencies, remains vigilant at the grassroots level, and calls on all Nigerians to remain patriotic as we move toward a safer, more prosperous nation,” the statement concluded.
