Armed gunmen stormed Dogon Ruwa community in Bashar District, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday evening, killing one resident and abducting an Imam, Abdulrashidi Baduku, along with six others.
The victims were reportedly ambushed while processing charcoal for commercial purposes on the outskirts of the community.
Shapi’i Sambo, a youth leader in Wase, confirmed the incident, describing the sudden assault. “The victims were processing charcoal when gunmen suddenly stormed the area. An Imam from Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Malam Abdulrashid Baduku, was among those abducted,” he said.
He added that residents attempted to trail the attackers but could not apprehend them due to the evening darkness. The attack has triggered widespread panic among locals. Sambo noted that security forces have already been deployed, with reinforcements sent to restore calm.
The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alabo Alfred, had not responded to inquiries at the time of filing this report.
Dogon Ruwa has endured persistent violence. On July 29, 2025, bandits ambushed soldiers and vigilantes in the community, killing two soldiers and two vigilantes. Just last week, gunmen raided Sabon Gari and Zak communities, resulting in the deaths of five residents and one soldier.
The latest incident underscores the recurring insecurity in Wase and surrounding areas, which have become hotspots for banditry and kidnappings.
