The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu on Monday decorated 84 newly promoted senior officers, including 13 elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), as part of efforts to strengthen leadership and enhance operational efficiency.
The event, held in Abuja at the Force Headquarters, also witnessed the decoration of 17 officers who were elevated to the rank of Commissioners of Police (CP), while 54 others were promoted to Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP).
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon-Placid, the IGP Disu described the promotions as recognition of merit, discipline, and professional excellence.
He noted that the elevation of officers is not only a reward for past performance but also a strategic step toward building a more effective, accountable, and responsive police force.
He charged the newly promoted officers to lead with integrity and professionalism, stressing a zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline, corruption, and dereliction of duty.
Reaffirming his vision for the Force, the IGP emphasised the importance of people-oriented policing, respect for human rights, and active community engagement as core operational principles.
Disu also announced that all newly promoted AIGs will participate in a mandatory Strategic Leadership Retreat beginning March 24, 2026 to strengthen leadership capacity and promote modern policing standards.
Those promoted to AIG rank include: Christopher Ado Emmanuel, Joseph Eribo, Miller Gajere Dantawaye, Henry Ifeanyi Uche, Olanrewaju Peter Ogunlowo, Mohammed Dahiru, Dankombo Faling Morris, Bello Shehu, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, Ahmed Musa, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, Simeon Udofia Akpanudom, and Haruna Olufemi.
Also decorated at the ceremony were several newly promoted Commissioners of Police, including Abdulrahim Audu Shaibu, Sarah Idowu Ehindero, and Rebecca Uchenna Okereke, among others.
Dignitaries present at the event included Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy Senate President; Patience Jonathan; former IGP Sunday Ehindero; and Placid Njoku, former Deputy Governor of Imo State.
Also in attendance were representatives of state governments and security institutions, including officials from Kogi and Adamawa states, as well as the National Defence College.
