Interior Ministry Launches Capacity-Building Programme to Strengthen Inter-Agency Security Collaboration

The Ministry of Interior has launched a two-day capacity-building programme aimed at strengthening collaboration among agencies under its supervision to improve Nigeria’s internal security system.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Maina Tamuna, said the initiative brings together key stakeholders to promote coordinated strategies for safeguarding national stability and unity. He described the programme as a strategic effort to reinforce institutional cooperation in tackling evolving security challenges.

The Minister commended the Ministry’s development partner, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, for its continued technical and institutional support, noting that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening democratic governance, institutional capacity, and collaborative security frameworks.

Tunji-Ojo stressed the need for agencies to operate as a unified system, particularly in protecting critical infrastructure and national assets. He added that the training platform is designed to generate practical and actionable security solutions, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Ministry’s reform priorities focused on professionalism, accountability, intelligence-led operations, and enhanced inter-agency coordination.

In his welcome address, Special Adviser on Training, Tunji Odewunmi, urged participants to engage actively in the sessions, describing the workshop as the first of its kind for agencies under the Ministry. He also appreciated Konrad Adenauer Stiftung for its support and called for sustained collaboration in personnel capacity development.

Participants at the programme were drawn from the Ministry’s four paramilitary agencies, including board members and aides to the Minister. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to fostering collaboration, professionalism, and operational excellence across internal security agencies to build a more secure and resilient nation.
