JAMB Denies Increase in Registration Fees

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed reports suggesting that it has increased its registration fees, describing the claims as false, misleading, and unfounded.

Speaking through its spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Friday, the examination body clarified that the approved registration fees have remained unchanged since 2019.

The current fees are as follows: Direct Entry (DE) costs ₦5,700; UTME only (without Mock) costs ₦7,200; while UTME with Mock costs ₦8,700. JAMB explained that these charges are broken down into an application fee of ₦3,500, reading text at ₦1,000, CBT centre registration service charge of ₦700, CBT centre UTME service charge of ₦1,500, bank charges of ₦500, and CBT Mock-UTME centre charge of ₦1,500.

The Board recalled that in 2018, the Federal Executive Council approved a reduction of the UTME application fee from ₦5,000 to ₦3,500, effective from the 2019 registration exercise. Since then, JAMB has maintained the same fee structure without any increase, despite rising operational costs.

It urged prospective candidates, parents, and guardians to disregard the misleading publication and rely only on information released through JAMB’s verified platforms. Candidates were strongly advised to carefully read official advertisements to avoid being misled or exploited by dishonest individuals or centres.

JAMB also appealed to candidates who may have been charged above the approved fees to report such centres with credible evidence, assuring that disciplinary action would be taken against any erring operators.

“The Board remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the protection of candidates’ interests at all times,” JAMB stated.
