The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified preparations for the induction of new-generation aircraft with the commissioning of key infrastructure at NAF Base Kaduna to support the training of pilots who will operate the incoming platforms.
In a statement issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, the Service confirmed that the projects were inaugurated on Friday by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke. The developments form part of broader efforts to align personnel capacity with the acquisition of advanced helicopters, fighter ground attack aircraft, and unmanned systems.
“The completion of the Student Pilots’ Quarters is a major step in preparing pilots who will operate modern advanced aircraft, enabling the projection of smart and decisive airpower to eliminate terrorist threats while safeguarding our people,” Air Marshal Aneke said.
He explained that the infrastructure push reflects a deeper transformation agenda within the Service. “My mission here is not just about buildings but about fulfilling my command philosophy, to enhance and sustain a highly motivated, professional, and mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive airpower effects in synergy with surface forces for the realisation of national security objectives,” he added.
The CAS praised President Bola Tinubu for backing the modernization drive, particularly through bilateral defence engagements with Türkiye. He disclosed that procurement processes are being accelerated for 24 M-346 Fighter Ground Attack Aircraft, 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters, and 10 AW-109 Trekker helicopters, alongside strategic engagements in the United States, Italy, and Türkiye.
The commissioned facilities include six blocks of 12 one-bedroom Student Pilots’ Quarters, a block of six three-bedroom flats completed by the NAF, and 30 studio apartments for personnel of the Military Training Centre.
Air Marshal Aneke urged personnel to uphold discipline and professionalism, emphasizing proper maintenance of the new facilities. He reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s security objectives and ensuring the Service is fully prepared to deploy advanced airpower capabilities once the new platforms arrive.
