Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has returned to the Federal High Court as his trial over alleged financial improprieties resumed. El-Rufai was seen entering the court under tight but orderly security, with officials closely monitoring the premises.
His return follows a temporary release granted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which allowed him to travel abroad to attend the funeral of his late mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who passed away in Cairo, Egypt. The release was reportedly granted on compassionate grounds, although the ICPC has not publicly outlined the specific terms of his bail.
It remains uncertain whether El-Rufai will continue to enjoy temporary bail or be taken back into ICPC custody pending further court decisions. Court observers say the proceedings could set the tone for the next phase of the high-profile trial, which has attracted national attention.
