The Nigerian military on Monday announced that its troops of the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Battalion 7, working in collaboration with the 8 Division Strike Team under the Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma, have dealt a major tactical blow to terrorists in Kadam Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation Fansan Yamma, the troops recorded significant operational success after a fierce engagement with a notorious terrorist network affiliated with Lakurawa fighters.
The Army explained that the operation was launched following credible intelligence that more than 100 terrorists had assembled deep within Kadam Forest to coordinate attacks, kidnap residents, and move victims to their strongholds.
Troops swiftly mobilised to intercept the group, establishing contact at about 12 noon. The battle was described as intense, with the terrorists attempting a rear-flanking manoeuvre before being repelled by superior firepower.
Exploitation operations confirmed that three terrorists were neutralised, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Recovered items included one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62 Special ammunition, three magazines, two radios, three motorcycles, and a mobile phone.
The Army noted that follow-on operations were ongoing to track fleeing terrorists, confirm additional casualties, and recover more weapons. It added that troop morale remains high, with aggressive patrols and sustained offensive operations continuing across the area to prevent regrouping and consolidate the gains of the operation.
