NiMet, NCAT Sign Strategic Partnership to Boost Aviation and Meteorological Training

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening professional training and capacity development within Nigeria’s aviation and meteorological sectors.

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, and the Rector of NCAT, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday, marking a new phase of institutional collaboration between the two federal establishments.

According to reports, the agreement reflects a shared commitment to enhancing service delivery standards through structured training programmes, technical cooperation, and the development of specialised competencies critical to aviation safety and meteorological operations.

Prof. Anosike explained that under the terms of the MoU, both institutions will collaborate on the use of training facilities, provide advisory support for aviation training programmes, and deliver specialised long- and short-term courses tailored for NiMet personnel. The partnership also provides for staff exchange programmes, joint training initiatives, and the utilisation of NiMet’s Training School in Oshodi, Lagos, for ICAO-compliant aviation training.

The framework covers key professional areas including aviation operations and management, safety management systems, crisis management, aviation security, air navigation systems, airport operations, as well as jointly organised programmes such as Diploma training in Aviation Meteorology.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prof. Anosike reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to strengthening human capital development within the sector. “Sustained investment in training, technical collaboration, and institutional partnership remains critical to advancing operational excellence and supporting safe, efficient air navigation in Nigeria,” he said.

The partnership is expected to deepen technical expertise, improve regulatory compliance, and reinforce Nigeria’s aviation safety architecture through coordinated training and knowledge exchange. Industry observers note that closer collaboration between NiMet and NCAT could further align meteorological services with aviation training standards, ultimately contributing to safer and more efficient air transport operations nationwide.
