Peoples Daily Appoints New Managing Director, Editors to Reposition Newspaper

The Board of Peoples Media Limited, publishers of Peoples Daily newspapers, has announced new appointments aimed at repositioning the company and its flagship titles to meet the expectations of stakeholders and readers.

Alhaji Maharazu Ahmed has been appointed Managing Director, while Messrs Egena Sunday Ode and Lateef Folorunso Ibrahim have been named Editors of the Daily and Weekend editions respectively.

In a statement, the Board said the appointments reflect its commitment to strengthening editorial leadership and enhancing the paper’s competitiveness in Nigeria’s media landscape.

Alhaji Ahmed brings over three decades of experience in journalism, having retired as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in 2024. A graduate of English and History from Bayero University, Kano, he began his career as an Information Officer in Katsina State before joining NAN in 1993. He held several key positions including State House Correspondent, North West Zonal Manager, Head of Newsroom, and Defence and Security Desk. Until his appointment, he was General Manager of The Syndicate Communications Nigeria Ltd, Kaduna.

The new Peoples Daily Editor, Ode, holds BA and Master’s degrees in English from Obafemi Awolowo University and the University of Lagos respectively, alongside a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from Times Journalism Institute, Lagos. He has worked with New Nigerian Newspapers, Champion Newspapers, and Daily Times, rising to Politics Editor before joining Peoples Daily. He is a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and the International Press Institute (IPI).

Weekend Editor Ibrahim is a graduate of Mass Communication from Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), Abeokuta. He also holds a Law degree from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye.

The Board expressed confidence that the new leadership team will reposition Peoples Daily for growth and relevance in the evolving Nigerian media industry.
