The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old boy, identified as Gobir Yusuf, for the alleged murder of his aunt (his mother’s younger sister), Mrs. Akanbi.
The State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the police headquarters on Friday.
According to him, the incident occurred on January 14, 2026.
He said the teenage suspect, who was living with the deceased, allegedly hid behind a door and attacked her while she was bathing, using household items including a frying pan, kitchen knives, a kitchen turning stick and a weighing scale.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the act was motivated by resentment and that previous attempts to poison the deceased had failed,” the commissioner said.
Ojo further revealed that the suspect had earlier attempted to poison the deceased by contaminating her soup and watermelon, but those attempts were unsuccessful before the physical attack that eventually led to her death.
Items recovered from the suspect include a frying pan, kitchen knives and a kitchen turning stick.
The police commissioner added that after committing the alleged crime, the suspect reportedly changed his clothes and left the residence under the pretext of running an errand. He later contacted the deceased’s husband, who returned home and discovered his wife lying lifeless in a pool of blood.Bottom of Form
