Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has deployed over 57,000 personnel across the country to ensure adequate security before, during and after the Easter celebrations.
The Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, approved the nationwide deployment as part of efforts to strengthen security and guarantee a peaceful festive period for citizens.
According to a statement issued yesterday by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, ACC Afolabi Babawale, the operation covers all the 36 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, with a focus on protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, CNAI.
The statement noted that Zonal Commanders, State Commandants and Provosts of NSCDC Colleges have been directed to ensure effective security coverage within their respective areas of responsibility.
It added that Officers would be strategically deployed to churches, shopping malls, parks and other recreational centres, with both overt and covert operations aimed at preventing criminal activities during the period.
Audi emphasised the need for increased vigilance and stronger inter-agency collaboration, stressing that intelligence sharing and prompt response to information from the public remain key to the success of the operation
“Our goal is to ensure a seamless and secure Easter celebration. We are working closely with other security agencies to maintain law and order. Parents and guardians should also guide their children properly to prevent them from being used for activities that could threaten public peace,” he said.
The statement further disclosed that specialised units of the Corps, including the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Female Squad and the Crack Squad, have been placed on high alert to respond swiftly to any security threats.
