President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a fresh five-year term.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, noting that the renewed tenure took effect from Friday, February 27, 2026.
Audi, who was first appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, completed his initial tenure last Friday during activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja. He is expected to resume duties on Monday with a renewed mandate to strengthen the Corps’ operational capacity.
President Tinubu charged Audi to reposition the NSCDC to play a more prominent role in Nigeria’s internal security architecture, especially as the Nigeria Police Force refocuses on its core responsibility of protecting citizens from banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa State, Audi began his education locally before earning a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in 1987. He later obtained a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1992, a Bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University in 1995, and advanced degrees including a Master’s in Public Administration (2001), a PhD in Public Administration (2014), and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice (2019).
Audi joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in 1996 and rose through the ranks, serving in several state commands before becoming Commandant in 2007. He was later deployed to the Office of the Commandant-General at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja.
The presidency expressed confidence that his renewed tenure will further strengthen the NSCDC’s contribution to national security.
