Board members of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) and coaches have applauded the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), for what they described as an unprecedented show of support for athletes.
The commendation was made during the official weigh-in at the Games Village, Bayelsa Palm, on Thursday, March 26.
NWF Vice President, Christopher Ankpila, described the welfare arrangements as exceptional, noting that both accommodation and feeding surpassed previous standards.
“The accommodation and feeding are excellent; we have never had this before,” Ankpila said.
“This is like world-class accommodation for the athletes. Everything you need is available, with all necessary facilities in their rooms, and the feeding is equally impressive.
We are very elated and grateful. We do not take this for granted.”
Also speaking, the board member representing the North-East, Umar Abubakar, highlighted the uniqueness of the gesture, emphasizing the positive impact on athletes’ morale.
“This is the first of its kind. As you can see, the athletes are excited,” Abubakar said.
“Quality food and good hostels have been provided for the participating athletes.
We cannot thank the President, who doubles as the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, enough. This is the best accommodation we’ve had since the inception of the wrestling classic 14 years ago.”
Former African champion and coach of the Delta State Wrestling Association, Joe Oziti, also expressed appreciation, describing the event as the best he has experienced in the state.
“This is the best competition we’ve attended in Bayelsa State. The accommodation is excellent, and this is also the first competition where we have free food,” Oziti said.
“Everyone is happy. Thank you very much to our President.”
