The political battle for the 2027 general election intensified at the weekend as the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) openly declared total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, insisting it has “no apology” for campaigning for the President while ordering all political appointees to immediately register as party members.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, speaking during an interactive session with elected and appointed government officials at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, declared that delivering massive votes for President Tinubu in 2027 was a collective responsibility of every government official and APC member in the state.
“The APC administration in Kano has no apology for supporting President Tinubu,” the governor said, adding that the state was determined to lead the country in delivering overwhelming votes for the President and ensuring victory for the party in all elective positions.
In what appeared to be an early mobilisation strategy ahead of the next general election, Yusuf directed all political appointees who had yet to register with the APC to do so without delay, stressing that every government official must actively identify with and strengthen the party.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to secure victories for the APC in the presidential, governorship, National Assembly, State Assembly and local government elections.
The governor further approved the allocation of plots of land to more than 300 political aides, including Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, Senior Special Reporters, Special Reporters and Personal Assistants. Each beneficiary will also receive N100,000.
The development has sparked political debate, coming months before the official commencement of campaigns for the 2027 elections.
Also speaking, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Falgore, defended the administration’s aggressive promotion of President Tinubu’s achievements, insisting the APC had no reason to apologise for marketing the President’s record in Kano.
The Kano APC Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, declared that “the battle line has been drawn” between the ruling party and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, expressing confidence that the APC would reclaim political dominance in the state during the 2027 elections.
At the end of the meeting, elected and appointed officials passed a vote of confidence on President Tinubu and Governor Yusuf, pledging to intensify grassroots mobilisation to secure victory for the APC at all levels.
Meanwhile, former Kano State Governor and former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, distanced himself from reports alleging that he accused the Kano State Government of mismanaging public funds.
In a statement issued by his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje described the report as false and politically motivated, insisting he never granted any interview making such allegations.
He maintained that, as an elder statesman, he would always use established channels to offer advice on governance rather than making inflammatory public statements, adding that legal action would be taken against those responsible for circulating the report.
