CAF to Decide on Possible WAFCON 2026 Postponement

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to announce within the next 48 hours whether the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will be postponed.

The move follows a formal request from host nation Morocco, which has asked for a delay to the tournament. Sources say CAF has been reviewing the request for several weeks, holding multiple high-level meetings to weigh the impact of any schedule change.

CAF is treating the matter with urgency, given the tournament’s importance in the women’s football calendar. The upcoming announcement is expected to confirm the timeline and provide clarity for participating teams and organisers.

Nigeria’s senior women’s team, the Super Falcons, have returned home as uncertainty continues over whether the competition will go ahead in Morocco as planned. Originally, WAFCON was scheduled to run from March 17 to April 3, 2026, serving as Africa’s qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

With less than two weeks to kick-off, CAF has yet to issue an official update. Key pre-tournament preparations, including media accreditation and formal announcements, have not taken place, leaving teams and stakeholders in limbo.
