Police Spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin Relieved of Duties After Six Months in Office

The Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, ASP Benjamin Hundeyin, has been relieved of his role as police spokesperson.

The development comes barely 24 hours after the inauguration of the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, in Abuja, and coincides with Hundeyin’s sixth month of service as head of the public relations unit.

Although no official statement has been issued by Force Headquarters regarding the removal or his replacement, sources revealed that the decision was taken Thursday morning by the IGP and his close associates. Leadership insiders noted that it is common practice for key officers to be reassigned following a change in police leadership.

Hundeyin, appointed by former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, had served for six months before the new development. A native of Badagry, Lagos State, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.

He also underwent advanced training in civil-military coordination at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Center in Jaji, Kaduna State.

Prior to his appointment as Force PRO, Hundeyin served as Police Public Relations Officer for Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, and participated in the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur in 2020.

He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, the International Public Relations Association, and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.
