Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday called for greater political cooperation across party lines, stressing that governance should prioritise the welfare of citizens over partisan rivalry. Shettima made the remarks while speaking at the second-term inauguration of Chukwuma Soludo as governor of Anambra State, held at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka. Addressing dignitaries and residents at the ceremony, the vice president emphasised that political leaders must work together to deliver good governance rather than deepen divisions through opposition politics. According to him, leadership is not simply about maintaining continuity in office but about demonstrating responsibility and commitment to public service. Shettima praised Soludo’s leadership style, describing him as a leader driven by ideas and conviction for the public good. He noted that the governor assumed office during a challenging period in Nigeria’s political and economic landscape but has remained focused on governance. The vice president also referenced Soludo’s re-election victory in the 2025 Anambra State governorship election, saying the result reflected the confidence voters have in his administration and its development agenda. Shettima urged political actors and citizens alike to support the governor’s second-term plans, adding that collective effort is necessary to achieve lasting progress in the state. Soludo, who was sworn in alongside his deputy Onyekachukwu Ibezim, begins another four-year term with a pledge to consolidate on his administration’s policies and development programmes across Anambra.The inauguration attracted government officials, traditional leaders, and political stakeholders from across Nigeria, highlighting the significance of the event in the state’s political calendar.
