Barau urges unity behind Tinubu amid global crises

By Olugbenga Salami

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin on Friday in Abuja called for national unity among Nigerians, warning that global crises demand domestic cohesion if Nigeria is to safeguard prosperity.

Speaking to journalists after the two-rakat prayers led by Professor Illiasu Usman at the national mosque, Barau said Nigerians must rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s administration to steer the country through turbulent times.

He pointed to wars in the Middle East and Europe, noting their ripple effects on economies worldwide, and argued that internal solidarity is Nigeria’s best buffer against spill-over hardship.

“What we need at this time is to continue supporting Mr President, all of us, and to continue praying for him so that he can succeed in his efforts to bring prosperity to our nation.

“We are facing global problems that are all over the world. We can see what is happening in the Middle East and other parts of the world.

“The world is full of challenges, and we are not an exception. So what we need at this period is to continue to support the President and pray for our nation, because we know, all of us who are working with him (Mr President) that he’s determined to bring prosperity to our nation,” he said.

The Deputy Senate President added that everyone working with Tinubu sees his determination to deliver national progress, and continued support will hasten that journey.

After the prayer, Barau congratulated Muslims on completing Ramadan, asking Allah for unity in Nigeria and wisdom for Tinubu and other leaders guiding the nation.

In his Eid sermon, Usman urged leaders at every level to end insecurity, insisting Nigeria has the resources to confront anyone threatening peace.

“Since genuine development cannot take place in any insecure or violence riddled society, government at all levels in Nigeria should intensify more, their wars against blood thirsty criminals in our mist,” the Imam said.
