The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has stressed the need for members of the NUJ FRCN Headquarters Chapel to uphold unity, transparency, and professionalism as they elect new leaders.

Comrade Ike, who was represented by the Council Treasurer, Comrade Sandra Chukwugekwu, gave the charge during the chapel’s election held at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Headquarters in Abuja.

She commended the outgoing leadership led by Comrade Tersoo Zamber for upholding the ideals of journalism, including integrity, professionalism, and unity.

“Elections such as this are vital in strengthening our union and deepening democratic values within our ranks,” she stated.

She further urged members to conduct themselves with fairness and sportsmanship, stressing that “the outcome should reflect the collective will of the people and the shared vision for progress.”

Reaffirming the Council’s commitment to the growth of its chapels, Ike said it would continue to support initiatives that enhance the welfare and professional development of members.

Chukwugekwu also applauded the increased participation of members in union activities and encouraged sustained engagement, particularly in upcoming programmes such as the NUJ FCT Council Easter Cantata.

At the end of the exercise, Comrade Daniel Adejo emerged as Chairman of the NUJ FRCN Headquarters Chapel.

Other elected officials include Stephen Esabu as Vice Chairman, Hassan Hussain as Secretary, Samuel Adeyinka as Assistant Secretary, Sunday Igoche as Auditor, and Muzha Kucha as Financial Secretary.

In his acceptance speech, Adejo expressed appreciation to members for their confidence, describing the election as a collective victory.

“This moment is not merely a personal achievement; it is a collective victory for all of us. It reflects the strength of our unity and the enduring democratic values that define this union,” he said.
