Team Bayelsa Increases Medal Haul as NPG, Abuja 2026 Enters Day 3:

Team Bayelsa continued their impressive performance in day three at the ongoing 2026 National Para Games in Abuja, amassing a total of 22 medals, comprising 9 gold, 5 silver, and 8 bronze medals, cementing their status as one of favourites teams at the Games.

Para-table tennis led the charge with 2 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze medals, while the para-swimming team dazzled in the pool, clinching 3 gold medals.

The para-taekwondo athletes also delivered a strong showing with 2 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals.

The para-canoeing team also added to their medal haul by ee3qeclinching 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals, while para-karate also contributed 1 gold medal.

The para-powerlifting team also made it to the podium, winning one 1 silver medal.

The swimming events produced some of the day’s brightest moments, as Dennis Aredepatei won gold in the Men’s 100m Backstroke Class 7. Anetorofa Asikpi followed up with gold in the 50m Breaststroke Class 6, while Godstime Opori secured another gold in the 50m Breaststroke SB6 event, completing a dominant outing in the pool.

Team Bayelsa’s dominance in para-canoeing has also been particularly noteworthy in underlining their strength and consistency on the water.

Cumulatively, after winning 4 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal on the previous day, Team Bayelsa’s overall medal tally now stands at an impressive 13 gold, 6 silver, and 9 bronze medals.

Reacting to the team’s performance, the Director of Sports, Mr. Andrew Aye, expressed satisfaction and delight at the athletes’ achievements so far.

While commending their dedication and discipline, at the games, Mr Aye said their dominant display is reflection of hard work.

He further urged the athletes to remain focused and maintain the momentum as the competition progresses.

With consistent podium finish across different sports, Team Bayelsa have clearly positioned themselves as a force to reckon with, as they continue their quest for glory at the 2026 Para Games in Abuja.
