The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) has stepped up efforts to educate young Nigerians on safe investment practices, focusing on fraud prevention and financial literacy during the 2026 Global Money Week.
Over 200 students from Covenant Child Academy, Testimony College, and Green Pastures High School participated in the event, which is part of NGX’s X-Tour initiative. The programme gave secondary school students a unique opportunity to interact with capital market regulators and trading experts, helping them understand how to make informed investment decisions.
The session, themed “Smart Money Talks,” highlighted the importance of protecting earnings from fraudulent schemes while exploring legitimate ways to grow wealth.
“Teaching children to save is important, but teaching them to safeguard what they earn is even more crucial,” a representative from NGX Regulation said.
With digital investment platforms becoming increasingly popular, the workshop focused heavily on due diligence. Students were guided on how to identify “get-rich-quick” schemes, understand their rights as investors, and engage only with licensed operators.
“Knowledge and research are the best protection against fraud in today’s rapidly evolving market,” a Market Regulation official noted.
Beyond awareness, students received practical insights into the workings of the capital market, including equities, fixed income securities, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). NGX experts stressed that starting early with diversified portfolios can provide a strong foundation for long-term financial independence.
The programme also included an interactive online session featuring United Capital Plc and popular financial influencer Stanley Onuorah, engaging students on social media to answer questions about investing safely.
“When we build confidence in young investors, we are strengthening the broader Nigerian economy,” NGX said.
The initiative has already reached thousands of viewers online, reflecting a growing interest among Nigerian youth for structured, safe, and transparent investment opportunities.
