The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the third and final phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across Nigeria, set to begin on May 11, 2026.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, the electoral body confirmed that the exercise will run until July 10, 2026, giving eligible Nigerians another opportunity to register and participate in the country’s electoral process.

INEC explained that the second phase of the CVR was suspended on April 17, 2026, to allow for the clean-up of the voter register following its publication for claims and objections. The Commission noted that this process was necessary to enhance the credibility and accuracy of the voter database.

According to the statement, the upcoming phase is open to citizens who have recently turned 18, as well as those who missed earlier registration periods. The Commission urged all eligible individuals to take advantage of the final window to secure their voter registration.

In addition to fresh registrations, INEC stated that already registered voters can also use the period to transfer their registration to a new location, correct personal details, or replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

To ease the process, the Commission encouraged citizens to utilize its official online registration portal or visit INEC offices located in all states and Local Government Areas nationwide.

As part of the statutory requirements, INEC disclosed that the updated Register of Voters will be displayed for public scrutiny from July 23 to July 29, 2026. During this period, Nigerians will have the opportunity to raise claims and objections, helping to ensure that the voter register remains accurate and free of irregularities.

The Commission reassured the public that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and transparent exercise. It also called on citizens to actively participate in the process as a way of strengthening Nigeria’s democratic system.

“The Commission appeals to all eligible citizens to present themselves for registration and contribute to building a credible electoral process,” the statement read.

The announcement was signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, on May 5, 2026.

With the 2026 electoral activities gradually taking shape, the CVR exercise remains a critical step in ensuring inclusivity and broad participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
