Professionals’ group backs Tinubu for 2027, cites reform impact

The Working People United, WOPU, a coalition of professionals across various sectors, has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re‑election bid in 2027.

The group made the announcement at the end of the inaugural meeting of its National Working Committee, NWC held in Abuja.

National Coordinator‑General William Akporeha said the endorsement was based on what he described as the “impactful policies” of the Tinubu administration and their benefits to both members and Nigerians at large.

Akporeha commended the NWC for its mass mobilisation drive and digital registration campaign, revealing that WOPU has recorded over one million registrations nationwide.

The group, according to him, plans to hold its inaugural summit later in May to highlight the administration’s achievements and provide a platform for dialogue between government and working Nigerians.

“The summit will showcase government activities and give working people the opportunity to present their expectations,” he said.

He added that the NWC had resolved to begin inaugurating WOPU chapters across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to mobilise grassroots support for Tinubu’s re‑election.

While acknowledging current economic challenges, Akporeha expressed confidence that they were temporary and would be outweighed by long‑term gains.

“Though there is temporary pain, we believe the gains will outweigh the challenges and bring progress to Nigeria. We believe Tinubu’s re‑election will consolidate ongoing reforms and drive further economic growth and development,” he stressed.

WOPU National Public Relations Officer, Segun Eso, also reaffirmed the group’s backing, saying it followed a careful assessment of the administration’s performance so far.

“We are convinced by what the President has achieved within his first tenure, and we believe supporting him for a second term is the best way forward,” he said.

Eso admitted that some policies had come with short‑term difficulties but described them as necessary for sustainable progress, citing the removal of fuel subsidy as a critical economic step.

“For progress to be achieved, some level of sacrifice is required. The subsidy removal is one of such decisions aimed at strengthening the economy,” Eso said, while urging Nigerians to support government efforts to tackle insecurity and boost growth.

The meeting was attended by members across the country, including Nigerians in the diaspora, who pledged to support Tinubu’s second‑term bid.
