Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has handed over five brand-new operational vehicles (“Green Marias”) to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The presentation, held on Wednesday at Government House, Asaba, underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening the justice system and enhancing security across the state.
Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori emphasized that an efficient correctional service relies heavily on robust logistics and seamless mobility. “These operational vehicles will enhance the day-to-day activities of officers, improve response capacity, strengthen supervision and coordination, and support the effective discharge of their responsibilities,” he said.
He noted that although the Nigerian Correctional Service is a federal institution, its role is critical to the safety and well-being of Delta residents. Under the fourth pillar of the MORE Agenda – Enhanced Peace and Security, the state government will continue to support and partner with federal security agencies.
Oborevwori urged officers to maintain the vehicles properly and ensure they are used solely for their intended purpose, with professionalism and accountability.
Earlier, the Controller-General of Correctional Services, Mr. Sylvester Nwackuche, represented by Chuke Idoko, Controller of Correctional Services, Delta State Command, thanked the Governor and the state government for the donation, assuring that the vehicles would be put to effective use.
The event was witnessed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, Commissioners, and other top government officials.
