Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has inducted 73 of its Public Relations Officers into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) as part of efforts to strengthen strategic communication and professionalise the Service’s public relations cadre.
The officers were formally inducted after successfully completing the NIPR Training and Certification Programme held at the Service Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking at the induction ceremony, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Visa and Residency, Franca Nwanneka, urged the newly inducted Officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
She charged them to proactively manage public perception, counter misinformation, respond effectively during crises, and strengthen public confidence in the Service as it continues to implement technology-driven reforms in migration management and border governance.
Nandap also commended the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations for partnering with the Service to deepen professionalism and institutionalise best practices in public relations.
President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku, who conducted the induction, encouraged the officers to remain committed to ethical conduct, professionalism, and continuous learning as essential principles of the public relations profession.
In his closing remarks, the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, said the successful training reflected the Comptroller-General’s commitment to capacity building and the standardisation of public relations practice across the Service.
He appreciated the NIPR, facilitators, and other stakeholders for supporting the programme and urged the Officers to apply the knowledge acquired to enhance public engagement and strengthen the image of the Service.
The Nigeria Immigration Service said the training and induction underscore its commitment to continuous professional development through strategic partnerships and specialised training aimed at advancing its core mandates of migration management and border governance.
