Kogi Varsity withdraws 27 students for poor performance

By Friday Idachaba, Lokoja

Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has withdrawn 27 students over poor academic performance and failure to register for two consecutive semesters, reaffirming its commitment to academic discipline and quality assurance.

The decision was approved by the University’s Senate at its 166th Regular Meeting held on July 29, following consideration of the report of the Results Verification Committee, according to a statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Uredo Omale.

The statement said the affected students were drawn from the Faculties of Arts and Humanities, Education, Management Sciences, Social Sciences, and Medicine and Surgery.

It explained that 11 students were withdrawn for failing to meet the minimum academic requirements for their programmes, while 16 others lost their studentship for failing to register for two consecutive semesters, contrary to the University’s Academic Regulations.

Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, commended the Results Verification Committee for conducting what he described as a thorough and objective review, noting that its work was essential to maintaining the integrity of the University’s academic system.

He reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to academic excellence, quality assurance and discipline, stressing that while the University would continue to provide a conducive learning environment, students must comply with its academic regulations and remain committed to their studies.

The Vice-Chancellor urged continuing students to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the institution and strive for excellence in both learning and character.

The University also directed the affected students to surrender all University property in their possession, including identity cards and other official items, to the Security Unit as part of the withdrawal process.
