Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has charged personnel of the Corps to uphold integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, stressing that corruption remains a major threat to effective service delivery and public confidence.
Audi gave the charge on Tuesday in Abuja during the induction of 100 officers of the Corps’ Anti-Fraud Unit drawn from various formations across the country, alongside the launch of two books authored by the Head of the Anti-Fraud Unit, Commandant of Corps Emeribe Chinyere Victory.
The NSCDC boss said the Corps could only effectively fulfil its core mandate of protecting lives and property, maintaining public order and promoting community safety when its personnel remained committed to ethical conduct and accountability.
According to him, fraud and corruption undermine operational effectiveness, erode public trust and damage the reputation of the service.
“Fraud and corruption are insidious threats that can undermine our efforts, erode public trust and compromise the very fabric of our agency. They not only affect our operations but also tarnish the reputation of the entire civil service. Today, we take a stand against these threats, reinforcing our commitment to ethical conduct and accountability,” he said.
Earlier, the Head of the NSCDC Anti-Fraud Unit, Commandant of Corps Emeribe Chinyere Victory, said the Unit remains committed to promoting integrity, transparency and accountability within the Corps.
She recalled that the Unit was established in 2007, with its pioneer Officers receiving training at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Institute in 2008, noting that successive leaderships have continued to strengthen its capacity through regular training.
Victory commended the Commandant General for providing an enabling environment that allows the unit to carry out its responsibilities without interference.
She explained that the Anti-Fraud Unit was responsible for detecting, preventing and investigating corrupt practices involving NSCDC personnel and contractors.
The event also featured the launch of two books authored by Victory, titled The Dark Side of Duty and The Anti-Fraud Lexicon, which were reviewed by retired Assistant Controller General Hammed Abodurin.
