Five people have been confirmed dead after a passenger boat capsized on the Kudi River in Shaba Woshi community, Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, with five bodies recovered from the scene by sympathisers and other residents who responded to the accident.
Following the incident, police operatives were mobilised to the scene of the capsized passenger boat on the Kudi River.
All five bodies were reportedly recovered and subsequently buried according to Islamic rites.
Confirming the incident in an interview with our reporter on Sunday in Minna, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the command was aware of the incident.
Abiodun said the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna, had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the boat mishap.
The investigation is expected to determine the cause of the accident and establish the circumstances that led to the capsizing of the passenger boat.
