Political leaders across party lines have called for peace, unity and tolerance among politicians and their supporters in Bwari Area Council, Abuja.
The call was made at the dedication ceremony of Daniel Julius, son of the former Chief Speaker of Bwari Area Council and PDP chairmanship candidate for the 2026 Area Council election, Hon. Julius Adamu, held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Katampe 1, Abuja.
The event was attended by political leaders from different parties, including the immediate past Chairman of Bwari Area Council and APC candidate for the House of Representatives for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the 2027 election, Hon. John Gabaya.
Gabaya described Adamu as a brother despite their political differences and urged politicians and their supporters to avoid violence arising from political disagreements.
“Despite our different political affiliations, I regard Julius as my brother. We must stop fighting and killing ourselves because of politics. We should embrace love, peace and togetherness,” he said.
Adamu, in his remarks, also called for an end to political violence, saying violence does not resolve disagreements. He said political parties were increasingly finding areas of cooperation in the interest of national development.
The Chairman of the PDP in Bwari Area Council, Hon. Alkali Shehu, who is a Muslim, said his attendance at the Catholic church was an expression of solidarity with Adamu and his family.
Shehu urged Nigerians to tolerate differences in religion and political affiliation and reject violence.
“In unity, we stand,” he said.
Other dignitaries at the ceremony included the Executive Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Hon. Joshua Musa Ishaku; Hon. Dalhatu Ezekiel, Accord Party candidate for the FCT Senate in the 2027 election; and other political leaders and representatives.
The participants called for greater tolerance and peaceful coexistence among residents and political actors in Bwari Area Council.
