BREAKING: Ebonyi governor sacks works commissioner

By Victor Nwegede, Abakaliki.

Ebonyi state governor, Francis Nwifuru has ordered the immediate removal from office of the state Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Mbam.

The directive was contained in a Public Service Announcement issued and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, on Saturday in Abakaliki.

According to the announcement, the governor also directed the commissioner to immediately hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

The governor further directed Mbam to transfer the responsibilities of the Ministry of Works to the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, pending further directives from the state government.

The statement read in part: “The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FNIOB, FCAI, GGCEHF has directed the immediate removal from office of the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam.”

The announcement did not state the specific reason for the governor’s decision to remove the commissioner from office.

The development came against the backdrop of the administration’s stated emphasis on infrastructure delivery and effective governance.

The state government’s official Ministry of Works profile identifies the ministry as responsible for construction services and infrastructure development across Ebonyi State.

Nigerian Pilot recalls that in February 2026, Governor Nwifuru had suspended Mbam and the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Engr. Ogbonnaya Obasi-Abara, over alleged dereliction of duty.
