Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has vowed to sustain efforts to protect lives and property across the state, insisting that his administration will not abandon its responsibility to confront insecurity.
Mutfwang said his government would deploy every lawful means, in collaboration with security agencies, to safeguard residents and communities against banditry, criminality and other security threats.
The governor spoke on Sunday at the 2026 Plateau Annual Convention of the General Council of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, North East Zone, held at the church’s Jos District Headquarters in Gyel, along the Bukuru Expressway, Jos South Local Government Area.
Addressing participants at the convention, Mutfwang acknowledged the security challenges confronting Plateau State but reaffirmed his determination to protect its people and restore lasting peace.
“I cannot abandon my responsibility of securing the people of Plateau State. We will protect our people with all that we have, within the ambit of the law,” he said.
The governor expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the Assemblies of God Nigeria for their prayers, support and contributions to the peace and development of the state.
He noted that Plateau had experienced difficult periods, particularly in the area of security, but maintained that the state would not be defeated by violence or the use of firearms.
Mutfwang said his administration had continued to strengthen security measures in partnership with relevant agencies to confront perpetrators of violence and protect communities.
He also called on residents to remain united and reject attitudes that promote division, including what he described as the “pull-him-down” syndrome.
The governor urged Christian leaders to rise above differences and serve as instruments of unity, peace and progress in society.
He appealed to Christians to put aside bitterness, unforgiveness, arrogance and other tendencies capable of undermining the unity of the Body of Christ, encouraging them to embrace humility, love and reconciliation in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Speaking on his political leadership, Mutfwang said his decision to participate in politics was motivated by a desire to serve God and humanity.
He added that his administration remained committed to changing the negative narrative about Plateau State, promoting development across critical sectors and improving the welfare of citizens.
The governor also expressed confidence in Nigeria’s resilience and potential despite the challenges confronting the country’s development.
Mutfwang commended the Assemblies of God Nigeria for its contributions to the spiritual and moral development of society, noting that the church was founded on revival and could only continue to thrive through sustained spiritual renewal.
Earlier, the former General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, who served as the guest speaker at the convention, praised Mutfwang for his resilience and efforts to protect lives and property in Plateau State.
Similarly, the Executive Council member representing the North East Zone, Rev. Jacob S. Langs, thanked the governor for attending the convention and acknowledged his contributions to the development of the state and the church.
Langs also appreciated Mutfwang for providing opportunities and appointments to sons and daughters of the church and members of the Gyel community.
The convention ended with a donation by Governor Mutfwang to support widows, empower youths through entrepreneurship initiatives and strengthen the activities of the convention.
