President Bola Tinubu has assented to the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, extending the implementation of the 2025 budget by three months.
The amendment moves the deadline for implementing the budget from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
The Senate and the House of Representatives passed the amendment on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, after which it was transmitted to the President for his assent.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said the extension would provide Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) with more time to complete ongoing capital projects.
According to the statement, the extension is also intended to allow government to fully utilise funds that have already been appropriated while ensuring that critical programmes continue without disruption.
“It ensures that funds already appropriated are fully put to work for Nigerians, without disrupting critical programmes,” the statement said.
Tinubu praised the leadership and members of the National Assembly for the prompt passage of the amendment.
The President said the development reflected the continued collaboration between the Executive and Legislative arms of government in advancing the interests of the country.
With the amendment now signed into law, the Federal Government can continue the implementation of the 2025 Appropriation Act until December 31, 2026, replacing the previous September 30, 2026 deadline.
