Bayelsa @ 30: Ogechi Lokpobiri hailed for humanitarian service

By Eunice Orike

The wife of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Dr Ogechi Lokpobiri, has been recognised for her humanitarian efforts and commitment to improving the lives of people around her.

The commendation came from the Vice President of Boardwalk Group, Mrs Obiageli Okwubanego, who described Ogechi as a woman whose impact extends beyond her role as the wife of a serving minister.

Okwubanego spoke in Abuja against the backdrop of the 30th anniversary celebration of Bayelsa State, tagged “Celebrating Legacies”.

The celebration also featured the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Senator Lokpobiri by Governor Douye Diri in recognition of his contributions and service.

According to Okwubanego, the recognition given to the minister should also draw attention to the people who have supported him over the years, particularly his wife.

She described Senator Lokpobiri and his wife as people committed to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

While acknowledging the minister’s contributions to the oil and gas sector and his role in projecting Bayelsa at the federal level, Okwubanego said Ogechi had distinguished herself through compassion, hard work and service to humanity.

She described the minister’s wife as a “pillar of strength” and an “icon” of positive impact, noting that her contribution went beyond providing support to her husband.

Okwubanego said Ogechi represents the type of woman who combines family responsibilities with productive engagement and concern for the wellbeing of others.

She said the popular expression that there is a woman behind every successful man becomes meaningful when the woman is supportive, hardworking and committed to making a difference.

The philanthropist also said Ogechi’s influence had earned her the respect of people who had encountered her, stressing that her humanitarian disposition should be encouraged.

Okwubanego urged public officials and their spouses to use their positions and influence to support initiatives that improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

She said leadership should not be measured only by positions held or awards received, but also by the positive impact such positions have on society.
