Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland and Norway, Ambassador Lola Akande, has formally begun her diplomatic mission to Denmark following the presentation of her Letters of Credence to King Frederik X.
Akande presented her credentials to the Danish monarch on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.
At an audience with the king after the ceremony, the ambassador conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Danish monarch, the royal family, and the government and people of Denmark.
She reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Denmark, highlighting opportunities to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Akande identified climate action, peace and security, and sustainable development as key areas that could deepen relations between both countries.
She also commended King Frederik X for his longstanding commitment to global sustainability and climate stewardship, noting the importance of these priorities in advancing cooperation between Nigeria and Denmark.
The ambassador stressed Nigeria’s strategic interest in its relationship with Denmark and expressed the country’s readiness to work with the Danish government, private sector and other stakeholders to broaden bilateral engagement.
She said stronger collaboration across relevant sectors would provide opportunities for both countries to advance shared interests and promote sustainable development.
The presentation of the Letters of Credence formally authorises Akande to discharge her diplomatic responsibilities as Nigeria’s ambassador to Denmark.
Akande is based in Stockholm, Sweden, where she serves as Nigeria’s ambassador, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland and Norway.
