Former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has made a passionate appeal to Nigerians to put aside their differences and unite to “rescue Nigeria” during the 2027 presidential elections.
Speaking in Uyo at the OBIDIENT Conference and Official Declaration for ADC, themed “Activating the PO Effect in ADC”, Obi said the “Operation Rescue Nigeria” movement is not about him as an individual but about safeguarding the collective destiny of future generations. He warned that decades of bad governance have left the country heavily indebted, with loans projected to be repaid between 2045 and 2050.
Obi stressed that rigging will not be tolerated in 2027, insisting that election results must be transmitted online in real time. “Democracy must work. I left Labour Party when I got informed that as long as I remain in the party, INEC will not recognize its leadership, that the federal government don’t want me on ballot paper. But I want to assure you that I will contest the coming election even if it holds in their bedroom,” he declared.
He assured that if elected, his administration would invest heavily in education and health, noting that great nations achieved progress through deliberate investment in these sectors. He pledged to pull Nigerians out of poverty, reduce criminality, and rid the country of corruption, saying corruption would be cut by 60 percent once leaders and their families are kept away from it.
Obi recalled his time as governor of Anambra State, when he advised his wife to forgo the office of First Lady, stressing that he never appropriated government land for personal use. “If you find any, petition me to the appropriate authority,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, coordinator of the OBIDIENT movement worldwide, urged Nigerians to mobilize across the country for the 2027 elections, channeling their energy into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the vehicle for transformation.
The Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of the movement, Dr. Ben Smith, called for unity among members, warning that divisions could derail the dream of a new Nigeria. “The 2027 presidential election is not about individuals but about a generation, jobs for the youths, security for our families, dignity for workers, and hope for every Nigerian,” he said.
The conference underscored Obi’s determination to contest the 2027 elections under the ADC platform, while rallying supporters to prioritize national unity and the future of Nigeria.
